2024’s biggest bag trends are in! After dissecting the runways, I’ve identified the key handbag trends to sit up and take notice of this year. In the spirit of sharing, I’m giving you a helping hand and sharing my research, right here. If, like me, you’re partial to a bit of arm candy, then you will not be disappointed. Just as you refresh your clothing at the start of a new season, it’s always nice to add a new handbag to your rotation to see you through the season in style. From slouchy to chrome options, there are a number of exciting new bag options for all occasions.
In 2024, we’re seeing the comeback of the slouchy tote. The oversized handbag was spotted at Bottega Veneta’s SS24 runway show, and designers Victoria Beckham and Loewe were all about the XXL totes too. For those who love to carry all of their essentials wherever they go, you’ll love the suede tote from Reformation in a delicious chocolate brown.
Next on the trend list is the chrome effect bag. Think chrome nails meet a structured clutch. A metallic bag can jazz up just about any outfit and give it a focus point, and if it’s good enough for Beyoncé, it’s good enough for us! The trusty bucket bag is back too, which granted, isn’t exactly new. Trends are cyclical, which is exactly why you should look after your favourite bags and avoid splashing out on the trends you’re not sure about. But there’s no denying that this iconic style is making its comeback after its appearance at Chloé, Miu Miu and Loewe’s SS24 shows. If you have a bucket bag, you’re nailing 2024 already.
Lastly, we’re set to see a resurgence of bags with chains, as well as the ultimate ladylike top handle bag. In terms of colour and texture, the craze of red is set to continue in 2024 and we’re seeing a lot of animal print coming back into focus. Croc is always a yes from me!

Slouchy Oversized Handbags
Slouchy bags never really went anywhere, but we’re going to see a lot more of the effortlessly cool trend in 2024. Bottega Veneta sent models down the SS24 runway with slouchy totes filled to the max, while Rokh and Balenciaga also embraced the relaxed look of the slouchy tote. The real reason this bag is so good is that it can hold just about everything, making them the perfect everyday bag. If you can’t leave the house without all of the essentials, this one’s for you.

Chrome Effect Handbags
There are plenty of trends we’re leaving in the past, but metallics aren’t one of them. This year, we’re seeing the trend crossover into accessories and chrome is set to be one of, if not the biggest handbag trends in 2024. The Pinterest Predicts report for 2024 explains, “Melty metallics will make their way into the mainstream in 2024 as people trade in their trusty neutrals for something a bit more hardcore.” They’re surprisingly easy to wear. Pair with a graphic tee and jeans for an effortless look, or wear yours with an LBD.

Bucket Bags
For those who preferred structured bags, you’ll be glad to know that the trusty bucket style is returning for 2024. Alexander McQueen embraced the circular bag in contrasting colours, while Chloé added edge with studs and Altuzarra opted for ombre. This shape is a classic, so unlike some of the bold and unusual styles you might be tempted to purchase, a bucket bag is a worthy investment.

Chained Up
We’re embracing a more is more attitude in 2024, whether it’s bows on everything or chains covering our handbags. This year, we’re set to see our bags merging beautifully with jewellery, as seen at Chanel, Balenciaga, Gabriela Hearst and more. As you’d imagine, chain-adorned bags tend to be less of an everyday bag and more of a statement piece.

Top Handle Bags
Possibly the chicest handbag option, the top handle handbag automatically makes any look seriously sophisticated. Prada kicked off the trend for AW23, but it’s been cemented as a 2024 must-have thanks to its reappearance at Miu Miu, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. For the ultimate in feminine chic, team yours with an A-line skirt and ballet flats.
